Kinderkirk Red Room

The Red Room is the home of the older four and young five year olds.

The curriculum in this room is designed to promote learning through curiosity and experimenting. Creative play is highlighted by the many choices of dress-up clothes and the traditional Red Playhouse that sits in the room big enough for children and teachers to walk in and out of. Puppet shows and other theatrical events are created in this room. A quiet corner is set up for individual reading and puzzle work. Musical instruments await the hands of the children as they listen to the African beats or the quiet sounds of the Braham's lullaby. Creative self help art with colored pencils and crayons, scissors, glue and plenty of paper is available throughout the morning and teacher directed projects are available for all to enjoy. Children are encouraged to write their names on their work. Small groups of children come together with the teacher to study many concepts such as matching, opposites, cause and effect and so forth.

Rug times with stories, sharing, singing and prayer are transition times between major activities. Children are encouraged to talk with one another to solve problems together.

Fieldtrips are planned, especially to the Carpinteria library, where the children enjoy special presentations arranged for them through the librarian. The Carpinteria Shuttle has been a friendly way for our children to go around town.

As in the Yellow, Orange and Green Rooms, the children who stay all day, enjoy outside play, lunchtime, rest time and outside afternoon play.
