Kinderkirk Green Room

The Green Room, known as the mini-zoo for reptiles and birds, supports the three year olds and young four year olds.

The room is rich in manipulative materials, dress-up and fantasy block play. One corner of the room is designed for quiet book and puzzle activity.

Children are expected to be responsible for clean up not only of their activities but also left-overs from others. On their mid-morning rug time, they talk about what they did and areas they helped clean up. Listening skills and confidence in talking to a group are promoted during this time. Singing songs and listening to stories are some of the favorite rug time choices.

Following rug, children go outside to enjoy the many activities (see Orange Room for outside detail) Some children help the teacher take care of the rabbits and chickens that live outside. At noontime the children come back to rug and talk over their outside time, pray and wash hands to get ready for lunch. Some children go home at this time.

Children who stay past 12:30 have a cot in the room for rest time. Around 2:30 the children put away their rest time cots and books. They are encouraged to put on their shoes and get ready for some more outside time. At 3:00 some children go home.

From 3-5:30 the rest of the children make choices outside and close the day in the Yellow Room. They wash up and do quiet activities while they wait to be picked up.
